Late garden lunch

We probably don't keep Imogen busy enough because she keeps making us these treats! Which is lovely of course! And it keeps everybody happy and healthy in the studio.

Imogen's baking?

Imogen has been baking here in the studio, and even though her rhubarb crumble is delicious - these aren't hers. :)

Isak New Potatoes!

Isak New Potatoes on our Green Apple Tray.

The Prints

The Abc Tree poster was printed on Friday and its looking good! The 123 Tree and 1-20 Bird poster was printed on Monday and delivered to the warehouse on Tuesday. Today we started packaging them and we're now waiting for some sticker labels from the printers and the posters will be ready to go out. Finally!

Fruits of Labour

Grilled New Potatoes, Courgettes and baby Beetroots with Basil and Coriander

Battered and shallow fried Courgettes flowers with lemon juice and salt. (Thanks Monica).
Chard, Petit Pois and Pepper Lettuce salad with Raspberry Balsamico.

Local free range chicken kebabs on the beach...

We love summer at the ISAK office after Imogen and Theo's hard months of work at the allotment to produce free, organic and super fresh delights. We just need to brew some wine and beer now!

New Poster labels!

The freshly printed posters are going to have new labels on the packaging and they look like this!

And the chard!

The chard is doing well at the Isak allotment too! We were kindly given rhubarb by Ted with the Shed yesterday, so for today's afternoon meeting we'll attempt a crumble. 100% organic, no transport or pollution! Allotmenting is brilliant!

Peas

The Isak allotment is making progress! The first batch of peas were eaten by rabbits. The second is growing securely under a fleece tunnel. We didn't know peas could grow so fast!

We are waiting and waiting for our recycled paper samples to come through... We are eager to go to print, yesterday! As many people have noticed, we have sold out on most of our posters and we are having them reprinted on a recycled board with veg based inks. They are going to look amazing. They will also be flat packed instead of rolled up in tubes.

Blommor till mamma!

I managed to do it again! Forget mother's day. It does not help that the Swedish mother's day is on a different day than the British mother's day. This for me is completely confusing. So, today is my own mother's day. Here, mum! Flowers for you! X

Isak Owl Wallpaper

There are many boys and girls being watched over by the Isak owls now and this lovely room belongs to a little Swedish boy.

Wonder Wall

We have done a little wallpapering ourselves over here in the Isak studio. Very happy with the result!

Familjen

Family is a recurrent theme in the land of Isak and our next collection is going to have an even stronger family theme running through it. Here is a little sneak peak; Mormor Gittan, Morfar Tord, Grandma Pauline and a young, very young, Morfar Tord...

Print Finish

"Create some vintage chic with patterned and printed products inspired by the past"

The June edition of Britain's biggest selling kitchen, bathroom and bedroom magazine recognises that much of ISAK's inspiration comes from the memories of growing up in the bright patterns of a Scandinavian childscape.

On the Throne at Frankfurt

Teak or Cedar Abby bathtub by Plavis Design

After Ambiente at Frankfurt comes the bi-annual Bogs & Drains tradefair (International Sanitation & Heating). The latest designs and innovations are showcased. Now we like a sleek beautiful bathroom so here are our top spots from ISH this year.

Ondus Digitecture by Grohe

There were definite trends appearing this year, everything is becoming sleek, slender and ultra thin with gentle curves and sweeping lines. This is to appeal to the ladies who usually make the buying decisions with bathroom furniture.

Lb3 by Ludovica & roberto Palomba

There is also a greater tendancy to mix materials. The familiar plastics and porcelain are being set against clean wooden veneers and sleek metal fittings. A more "organic" feel.

Axor radiator by Patricia Urquiola

Inipi sauna by EOOS

Freestanding basin Zucchetti

S01 by NOA

Hiding away the pipes and plumbing is becoming increasingly popular to give a minimalist feel and clean lines.

Roca's W+W washbasin and toilet system

Ambiente

Ambiente at Frankfurt am Main takes place every February and is a global hub of consumer product development. Within the huge mass of consumerism are the two islands of Talent and Next that showcase companies that design and produce their own ranges. ISAK was invited to attend but could not take the time away from the studio. However, we did swing past to take a look and here are some of the highlights we saw on our swift visit. To start with a wine carrier that carries 2 bottles has got to be good from BUILT NY.
The flat-packed Trask lamp from mioculture impressed as did the extravagant Snug from Pyg-design.

Ceramics were in evidence with cool little tea-pots from Gaetano Di Gregorio and Ou! egg cups from Sagen Ceramics.

The Fennel vase from Sagen has lovely organic lines.
How about a Cubic Chair from Music Rocker as a new gadget.

In these credit crunching times there were a few useful piggy banks available from Donkey-Products and J-Me

And finished off with a candle-lit dinner from Details-Products.

Elle Decoration Wishlist

The ISAK Leaf tray features in June's Elle Decoration Shopping Wishlist as one of the "ten things we simply must have, right now!". We feel very honored nestling up to a Charles and Ray Eames' RAR chair, which has always been one of our classic favorites.

ISAK Leaf cocktail tray £15. Made of Swedish Birchwood from sustainable forest.

Rags to Riches

Harry and Camila are based in Barcelona and have produced a range of gorgeous products over the years. However, we just adore the Felifamily, inspired by their 4 year old son and named after his Chilean grandmother, Tita, Feli, Pocho and Nil.

The products are part made in Guatamala as part of a cultural exchange to integrate poor rural areas into the global village.

I'm sure you will find one to love...

Fun & Function

We have seen these guys' novelty gifts popping up around the design boutiques and gift shows. We enjoy their sense of fun and contemporary cool. You can never have enough wine racks. www.j-me.co.uk

Gotta Scoot!

Wooden bicycle rims have better elasticity properties, particularly over long distances, and provide better braking performance. And if you make them out of the best Slovenian Beech then no knots means no weak points. Fiorenzo Magni won 3 Tour de France on them. So if you fancy doing a few miles on two wheels, send an order form to Cerchio Ghisallo where these beautiful products are hand crafted. We have our eyes on a scooter, who wouldn't want to go to work on one of these?

Bind Weed

For those of you wondering what happened to the ISAK allotment; Imogen has been very busy with the boys from the estate. The ground has been cleared and leveled and dug, then dug again. I'll let you work out the BEFORE and AFTER shots.
We are very sorry to the host of field mice and slow-worms that we were forced to evacuate. We are now waiting expectantly having planted potatoes, sweetcorn, chard, carrots, beetroot, broccoli, peas, runner beans, onions, parsnips and variations there of. Unfortunately all that seems to be growing is bind-weed...everywhere.
The shed hasn't changed and is home to the displaced fieldmice.
The ISAK office rest area has been cleared, but is still not quite ready for the conference calls. We have to admit to being quite enthralled by nature and humbled, it's all rather exciting.

Birdsong & Babytalk

Birds don’t sing. It just sounds like that to us. Birds talk to each other. They learn how to do this from their parents. There is only one other species who can do this; humans. Just like us, most birds are content with talking about their homes and chatting up good-looking birds for some flocking together! However, songbirds, parrots, magpies and hummingbirds have huge vocabularies, including mimicry. You will often hear Starlings mimicking machinery, car alarms or whistling. Before you use the term birdbrain try and mimic a Song Thrush. You can’t because a bird’s larynx, called a syrinx, is located closer to the lungs, and allows two notes to be made at the same time. Springtime is heralded by the dawn chorus, but no-one knows why. I think it is just because the birds are happy. In the autumn you will hear baby Robins and Blackbirds talking to themselves as they learn how to talk. Think of that the next time you hear your baby babbling to his self in the nursery.

This is merely a long-sleeved t-shirt and doesn’t talk at all. We just think it looks nice.

Sumo T-shirt, £18.
Sizes 0-3months, 3-6 months, 6-9 months, 1-2yrs, 2-3yrs, 3-4yrs, 4-5yrs

Chalet & Abode-New York

Welcome to the latest members of ISAK stockists. Chalet in Bakewell is a beautiful, hidden gem of a shop. A lovely collection of interior specialities, mainly sourced from France and Scandinavia.
Rustic, homely and quirky. If you are taking a trip to Derbyshire, be sure to pop in and see Lou and browse her collection at 1 Kings Court, Kings Street.

On the other side of the pond our "special relationship" with the USA is growing with our first stockist in New York. Tony & Brian run Abode-New York in Brooklyn. They aim to stock "unique and contemporary home furnishings for the urban dweller".

If you are planning to take a bite of The Big Apple, drop by, say hi and find some NY style to take home with you.

Dejlig Danmark: Wonderful Copenhagen...again!

Koncerthuset K3NC2R7 HUS4T has now opened in Copenhagen and the Danes have done it again. Produced something that is beautiful, functional and of worldbeating quality. The Concert Hall is the final segment of the Danish Broadcasting Company's Town of Broadcast.

The main concert hall is a great steel core surrounded on the outside by glass and blue screens onto which images of performances are displayed.

The Japanese sound engineers built a 1:10 model of the hall, complete with model spectators to make sure every seat was acoustically serviced. Acoustic death spaces were also incorporated.
There are 4 concert halls to cater for all kinds of music from intimate jazz sessions to symphony orchestras.
On July 16th Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson will be performing an exclusive concert, and you can enjoy many other attractions such as the suprano Anna Netrebko, Lord of the Rings narrated by Christopher Lee and a full Symphonic Summer of events.

Read All About it!

We are so fortunate that the design press have enjoyed our designs enough to share them in their pages. It is always fantastic for us to know people are seeing our designs.

We have enjoyed a wide selection of press coverage over the last year, with all of our products being represented somewhere. We don't always see the articles as lots are published without our knowledge.

We are excited about our new designs and products that we have started working on for next year already. This is the fun bit for us! We will keep you posted as things develop. In the meantime enjoy the ranges we have available and if you see an article about us, let us know.

Enjoy this spring sunshine!

Everyone deserves a bit of beauty

At ISAK we do what we do because we believe that design should be intrinsic to everything around us. We want to be surrounded by everyday objects that look good and brighten up our day.

We are very happy to see that others agree with our philosophy. Here is a selection of the press articles about ISAK and our products from the last year.

We hope that you have enjoyed being part of ISAK as much as we have. Look out for us in forthcoming editions of Grand Design Magazine, Elle Decoration and Country Living.

Hard Rock Cafe

The East Beach Cafe at Littlehampton is one of ISAK's favorite places to drown in the best of the British seaside. Crazy-crashing waves, shrieking gulls, rolling pebble beach and a great cup of tea. When the previous kiosk closed down, Jane & Sophie, bought the plot after planning permission had been given to an 80 seater burger bar! They took it upon themselves to build this iconic structure that punctuates the seafront without destroying it.They have since added a West Beach Cafe amongst the sand-dunes and there are great plans afoot to rejuvenate the whole of the Littlehampton seafront. It is about time that our wonderful seaside towns came back into fashion and received some of the investment they deserve and desperately need.
